U.S. Special Representative for Religion and Global Affairs, Dr. Shaun Casey, had several meetings in Kyiv with religious leaders, government officials and experts.

During last week the U.S. official met with Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate patriarch Filaret at his residence, Primate of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church metropolitan Makariy, Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) metropolitan Anthony, archbishop emeritus of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Lubomyr Husar, the Institute for Religious Freedom reports.

During the meetings in Ukraine Dr. Shaun Casey told about the activities of the Office of Faith-Based Community Initiatives, established in the U.S. State Department in August 2013.

Participants discussed the inter-faith situation in Ukraine, the situation with Church-State relations, religious aspects of Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine and violations of the rights of believers in the occupied Ukrainian territories of Crimea and Donbas.
