of Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations
to the people of Ukraine about the presidential elections
Dear fellow citizens!
Today the Ukrainian government goes through cardinal changes and despite the multiple challenges, our society has now a unique chance to build its future on a democratic basis, overcoming a culture of indifference and rejecting our legacy of corruption.
After protests of many thousands on Maidan square in Kyiv and in many cities all over Ukraine against the arbitrariness and impunity of the authorities repressing and curtailing our civil rights, once again only Ukrainian citizens can now determine the future of our state. This right can be carried out above all during direct and nationwide presidential elections in Ukraine.
We would like to encourage everyone to fulfill their civic duty – to come to your polling station on May 25th, 2014 and to get involved in the election of the new Head of the Ukrainian state.
In this way, this day each of us can protect Ukraine and ensure its security and peace as our state needs a popularly elected president of Ukraine with administrative authority invested by the Constitution and by the trust of the people.
Taking this into account hindering this peaceful process for any reason is absolutely unacceptable. Who will act like this will fall under heavy guilt before God and the Ukrainian people.
Let everyone realizing their responsibility before God, the law and the coming generations, vote honestly and judiciously, without selling their votes and their Homeland for illusive promises or insidious gifts.
Likewise candidates and all political figures and public authorities should not permit dirty agitation and bribery, application of administrative resources and media manipulation, falsification of voting and calculation of its results. Only fair and transparent elections can ensure the complete trust of Ukrainian society and the international community in the new President of Ukraine, which is absolutely essential for overcoming the challenges of the present time.
These days are especially important for every believer. Everyone should exalt their prayers for the honest and legitimate electoral process, peace in our state and the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine!
Accepted May 15, 2014 in Kyiv, at the meeting of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
